Women’s Health

Lost your spark? Irregular or absent periods? Are you periods heavy and painful causing you to have to take time off work?

Are you on the pill thinking about starting a family but unsure what will happen when you come off?

Do you suffer from mood changes that are beginning to affecting your relationships? Do you experience recurrent bouts of thrush or urinary tract infections and nothing seems to help? Are you noticing facial hair growth or maybe hormonal acne?

If you answered yes to 1 or more of the above you may have a hormone imbalance. When hormones are balanced we should feel energised, happy, our skin is supple and glowing, hair is luscious and we should be enjoying restful deep sleep.

How Naturopathy can help?

Hormonal health issues affect nearly all women at some stage in their lives. Whether it be the onset of menarche, preparation for pregnancy, post natal rebalancing or the transition into menopause. Naturopathy can assist in regaining and maintaining healthy hormones throughout all stages of a woman's life.

Hormonal health does not just rely on healthy ovarian function. It also encompases nutrition, genetics, digestive function, environmental exposures and the health of other endocrine glands such as the thyroid and adrenals and their hormonal functioning.

Nutritional support

Many women do not realise the importance of good nutrition and the impact this has on not only hormonal health but overall wellbeing.

Nutritional support may involve optimising nutrition intake, correcting underlying nutritional deficiencies, including those induced by certain medications, addressing any additional factors that may be influencing nutritional status including poor digestion and absorption of nutrients, stress and environmental toxin exposures.

Herbal medicine

Plant medicine has been used for centuries for supporting women's health and in particular hormonal health for regulating the menstrual cycle, reducing pain, supporting ovarian function and uterine tone and promoting healthy hormone metabolism and excretion.

Functional pathology testing

Functional pathology can also assist and identify specific hormonal problems. Testing can give you exact information with hormones and allow for a baseline evaluation to track progress of treatment.

This can shorten the length of time required to work on a set of symptoms or condition.

Melissa uses the DUTCH test for comprehensive hormone evaluation. Unlike conventional blood tests, the DUTCH test gives more insight into what the body is doing with the hormones produced. This is an easy to use test that can be completed in the privacy of your own home. It evaluated sex hormones, their metabolites, liver metabolism of oestrogen, cortisol and adrenal function, and markers for B12 & B6 status along with oxidative damage and glutathione status.

Conditions Melissa can assist with:

Heavy painful periods | Irregular periods | Hormonal acne | Premenstrual syndrome | Polycystic ovarian syndrome | Endometriosis | Perimenopause & menopause | Transitioning off the pill | Thrush | Urinary tract infections | Pregnancy & post partum support | Thyroid conditions including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, hashimoto’s & graves disease
